That's true.  I've tried that with mine previously, but it places the tones 
up above 2 kHz, so one still has to shift the IF passband and/or adjust what 
one is telling the software about the dial frequency.  So far, it seems 
simplest just to use USB mode and do the filter switch and IF shift 
manually.

However, it's still an interesting idea.  I may try the approach again to 
see if FSK mode offers better compensation for the narrow filter's 
attenuation than USB mode does.

Or rather, I'll try once it gets dry enough to go out in the field again. 
I'll probably have to sit out the next 24-48 hours.  I can clearly see the 
tracks where I almost didn't make it out of the mud between storms last 
night.
