[Lowfer] SAQ 'extra transmission' in CT

Hi Jay

I have just replayed the QAS sequence from the .wav file from SpectraVue.

SAQ's actual transmission from 1415:10 utc is:-

QAS QAS QAS ED VVV VVV VVV QAS QAS etc

VVV being the same forwards or backwards.

Yes, I do have some interesting stories from my sea going days.

The one that usually gets the listeners attention, goes like this.

One morning when I was in bed with the Captain's daughter, there was a knock
on the door and in came the Captain . . . . . . . . . . with a
tray with two cups of tea on it.

(I usually pause after .... in came the Captain!)

My reply to the now 'shocked' listener is that, "well I was married to the
Captain's daughter"

In reality, my father-in-law was the Captain (or Master to use the official
term)of the ss Methane Progress, a liquid gas carrier which transported
natural gas from Algeria to the UK. The ship used to discharge at a gas
terminal on Canvey Island in the River Thames, just outside London. So My
wife, her mother and I used to drive down (about 240 miles) to visit and
stay overnight.

When I can find the time, this and other sea stories will be on
www.ancient-mariner.co.uk together with my VLF interests. My draft VLF/LF
Frequency list (yet to be uploaded) is 145 landscape pages. Which is
certainly a 'work in progress'.

Meanwhile, I have uploaded a couple of SAQ SpectraVue files from this
afternoon to www.ancient-mariner.co.uk/public

Record0_201140702_141421.wav contains SAQ & QAS and
Record0_201140702_142958.wav contains the SAQ message

These both contain the 0 - 100 kHz spectrum as received here in Hawarden,
North Wales, this afternoon. 53-11-44N 003-01-42W 1070 km or 665 miles from
SAQ.

Best Regards

Initially thought that might be the case ... but the V V V were perfectly
fine. Bet you've got some
interesting stories from your time at sea.

Hi Jay

"..... with the ID curiously sent as QAS!"

Reminds me of my time at sea when Coast Stations got their knickers twisted
and put their traffic list Morse tapes in back to front.

I was at SAQ for their Alexanderson Day in 2011 and for some reason there
was no sidetone for the first transmission, I don't know whether Lars
Kålland SM6NM had sidetone through his earphones, but he did a great job.

July 2, 2014 reception was slightly down from 'normal' and about on par with
the Jun 29 2014
transmission last weekend. A short .mp3 of the tuneup session with the ID
curiously sent as QAS!

Same receiving setup as usual:

Modified Amrad E probe (1 meter)
LNA
Delta 44 A/D converter
Spectrum Laboratory
