I had a similar issue with my old "workhorse" radio room XP machine this 
past winter. Finally ordered a new power supply. That one was in a 
perfect looking box when it came in but literally looked like it had 
been run over by a large truck inside of the box (Tiger Direct) Bought 
another one, since they were on sale and pretty cheap. Put it in and it 
has been running 24/7 since I put it in.

Didn't do a post mortem on the old supply.
