Dex,
Thanks for braving unexpected tones in your head to keep sending on 8822 Hz!
My quietest eprobe is the one on the roof, not the one in the back yard.
I connected the former to my sdr-iq that is externally clocked by a GPS
reference (I had been using my other sdr-iq which runs off an internal
XO clock) and extended Spectrum Laboratory to a 131k FFT. That seems to
have done the trick.
Since acquisition I've seen a peak very near 8822 Hz and clearly above
the noise floor. Not the good SNR shown at
http://46.4.26.83/sp8822_vlf35.png, but that path is only 164 miles
versus my distance of 633 miles.
My soundcard sampling rate for Spectrum Laboratory hasn't been
calibrated for awhile so it's not surprising that both the peak at 8822
Hz and 8822.1 Hz from my GPS-locked SLM show errors of 0.002 Hz, but 0.2
ppm isn't too bad.
