I think it would be possible to use the common TV Horizontal Oscillator frequency
of 15.734 kHz for an accurate standard frequency to calibrate your setup with?


It is known to be accurate and can be heard in most places if you have
any neighbors nearby that are watching their TVs. Perhaps your own TV would
do as long as the signal is not too strong getting into your receiver.


I can remember using the extremely weak carrier coming from a neighbor's TV set
from somewhere down the street as a test signal for my own VLF receiving setup
in the past.

I got a very weak trace from about 0130 to 0330 here in the Washington DC
area, but it showed up about 3Hz high.  Unless you were actually that far
off I doubt it was you because both my SDR-IQ and my RTL-SDR seem to agree
on frequency and this setup is usually good down to 0.1Hz.  I saw a local
switching power supply on both receivers, but your signal only on the IQ,
so it could have been some sort of intermod with a nearby AM station.  The
two receivers are on different antennas so that could also explain the
difference.

Remind me again what kind of signal are you running?  QRSS, carrier, CW,
etc?  I think my integration time is way too long to see anything so I need
to adjust based on what modulation you are using.

Can someone recommend a good narrowband signal in the 10-20kHz range to use
to calibrate my setup?  It would have to be a pretty low data rate to
provide an accurate frequency.  The time signal at 60kHz is too far off to
confirm this specific setup is calibrated accurately.
