>>> You may recall the sunrise capture from Wednesday morning.
Unfortunately, noise picked up early that afternoon and virtually
obliterated MP for the rest of the day.... Yesterday was much better.
Oops. That should have read "the sunrise capture from TUESDAY morning"
the 12th. Didn't realize my mistake until my mail arrived this
afternoon, about 5 hours after I sent it and a couple hours after
others apparently received it. (Peculiar how shakily e-mail works
these days...and yet companies keep trying to get me to sign up for
e-mail notices of paperless billing, payment confirmations, etc.)
Yesterday, the real Wednesday, was indeed the much better day for MP.
Median noise level at mid afternoon was around S5 when I first started
monitoring, and it decreased to around S4 by an hour later (250 Hz IF
BW). QRN picked up considerably after sunset, becoming S7 or 8 on
average, with occasional excursions above 9. That's usually about the
point at which MP becomes indistinguishable from the background, even
at QRSS60, but apparently the signal itself was a bit stronger too,
because it was still recognizable after 10 PM CDT. If I can stay awake
this evening (after the past couple of nights in the field) I'll try to
put together a panoramic view of the captures and post it at
http://lwca.org/mb/ later tonight. I expect it will be very evident
from the frequency drift when the sun went down out there.
