Was wondering what your antenna R is without the ground system. Do you have an rf ammeter in the
antenna lead? The better ground system is only going to make the arcing situation worse.
Some quick calculations assuming antennas like you and I have ... at 72.4 kHz:
1200 watts / total antenna R=40 ohms (poor ground system) ... 16.4 kV at top of loading coil
1200 watts / total antenna R=10 ohms (excellent ground system) ... 32.8 kV at top of loading coil -
yikes!
Much over 20 kV requires good insulation, corona rings etc - damp wx can be a show stopper. Good
idea to have a fire extinguisher handy for 73 kHz 'high power' operations!
