Morning from a soggy Alaska

What is knocking out John BDQ's reception down there near Vancouver has been a useful prop aid up here in AK pver the last couple of days (sorry John!)

Shows propagation between us over a >2100Kms path between Wasilla Alaska and the Naval station near to or a little East of Vancouver BC.

The path between us cuts between a glaciated mountain ranges at this end and a couple of knife edges before starting a mostly seaward path.

The signal todate shows around a 5dB on average increase in level at night over daytime, but with the sun at midpoint the delta is only about 2dB. . Weakest signals are post dawn. Notice In not talking about signal to noise..which it typically worse on this path at night.

The sunup at the near Vancouver site as received here shows the double or triple fades as the phase changes with the signal being squeezed (my term!). Youll notice the space between the sun rise fades at the tx site changes between days.

Its pretty disturbed up here at the moment at there was little by way of HF propagation above 5MHz this morning - I had to listen to Radio Australia from their Alice Springs site and even that was "wobbly". No BBC to be heard

These results are similar to the ones we see down in the lower VLF range but very much affected by daily, seasonal and path geometry.

Ive been looking for Bob every night and only seen smudges - it will be a little while before things improve up here.
