Hi Mark. Like Garry, I didn't have very good results with reception last
night, either...not with XNI, nor SIW. There was a little more noise after
dark than there had been in the afternoon on 1750m, both static and PLCs.
In addition, there was quite a bit of QSB.
On Garry's signal, I started out in QRSS60 mode and realized I wasn't going
to see the transitions between elements very clearly there; I could only
gauge the characters by timing, so I switched to QRSS30 and caught the W a
little better...then a fade set in. At the same time, I was capturing on
185.303--also accidentally in 60 s mode, unfortunately, which meant that I
saw only a blur where there should have been an S and the first dot of the
J, but at least the three dashes of the J were distinctive. That's when the
same fade hit that wiped out SIW for a while, but SJ never returned here.
At midnight, I finally tuned up to watch for Mark, and also watched MLS in
the same passband on another Argo instance. Nothing at all from MLS, and
only the result you see here for Mark.
I'll be trying again around the 1750m wateringhole tonight, but I don't plan
to be out as late as last night.
John
