Another factor likely enhancing daytime MF groundwave--at certain distances, 
anyway--is the high solar X-ray flux we've been receiving on the day side 
recently.  The D-layer is opaque mush, so the path is most likely pure 
groundwave, not the usual weak mix of sky- and ground-wave out near the 
normal limit of coverage, where the returning skywave tends to be 
destructive rather than additive (the skip zone).  I've been noticing the 
effects on daytime AM BCB, where regional channel stations two states away 
here on the Plains have been coming in better than they generally do.  (This 
sort of listening I can do at the city park, without having to sit under the 
chilly antenna in my soggy field.)
