Hi Chaps -
On the question on antipodean contacts I took a little look back at 2004 from Part 5 WD2XDW 137.7752ish, Bartlesville OK (1Kw to loop, appx 3W EIRPish) and Mike ZL4OL South Island NZ some 13K Kms away -receiving end and the path was "open" in :-
Oct, Nov, Feb, March, April, May and July ! I think I was out of the country most of Dec…
Heres what I have as it gives interesting opening times from Oklahoma to New Zealand

I have not listened for a while but captured this signal tonight on 137775.
Is it you Laurence? (yes it was the XDW staircase)

Patchy copy of XDW around 1000utc last night.

21st April
Last night XDW was strong when I first looked at 0850utc and slowly faded
out over the next two hours.

Hi Laurence,
nice copy of XDW tonight. It's good to see a DX signal coming through again.

15th Feb
XDW was good copy last night from 0900 till 1215utc. The signal was readable
even with 30 second dot settings for much of that time.
No other signals were seen except for possible traces just above 137778.

17th Nov
some copy of XDW tonight . Definitely identifiable but not strong. Best copy
between 0900 and 1000z.

Looking at geoclock I can now see that we are probably getting a boost in
signal from our sunset, the grey line being somewhere near at right angles
to the great circle path from ZL to XDW.
