Pbs ran an hour program years ago about the Yankee network the 42 50
mhz band. I will check and see if any of my friends have a copy. I
think it dealt with the patent fight between Armstrong and Sarnoff over
FM.
I have a Hallicrafters T50 five inch tv which has channel 1 on it ,48
to 54 mhz. It was built in 47, in 48 the FCC omited channel 1 and gvae
it to hams as the six meter band. Technicians didnt get 6 until 55 or
so. It was in the 50's that 40 got a phone band. I started swling in 55
and remember hams talking about the new 15 meter band and 40 phone.
Originallly technicians had 220 and above. I'l hAve to dig out some
handbooks from the 40's and 50's and look themover.
