Conditions were pretty poor up here in AK -

 I can get some very quick rough and ready idea when Im driving the 50 miles or so home from work and tune to 530kHz on the car radio and if I can hear ICW NDB ( about 200 miles North over an obstructed mountain path) or Vancouver MW traffic station  (1500 miles or so, mostly Water) on 730kHz then things are reasonable - if not, well perhaps they will change in the next 12/24 hours. Last few nights not a peep.
