I use vaseline on both the inner and outer parts of the connectors, then cover them with a rubber boot meant for
test lead alligator / crocodile clips.  Just remember to install the boot BEFORE the connector!!  Try to locate the
connectors on the bottom of the devices and leave a drip loop.
