glad to hear they work well, I basically have no other choice.

If anyone asks me what antenna I recommend for LF/VLF listening
my first choice is always a good active whip like the Z1501D that
Clifton Labs is selling. Of all the antennas I have used over the years
my favorite is a good active whip.

One big advantage is the broadband design so you are able to
listen anywhere from the Russian Alphas below 15kHz up through
the HF bands to 30mHz without having to peak or retune the antenna like
you would need to do with a longwire or tuned loop.

I have found the small size picks up less noise also as it can be located
in a quiet corner of a yard or even up on the roof of a house. A longwire
antenna
tends to pick up more noise over a wider area as it takes up a lot more
room.

It helps greatly to try to mount an active whip up in the air in the clear
if possible. I would recommend try to get it at least 15-20 feet above
ground level
and keep it away from noisy AC house wiring.
