Doug, your boost to 34 dB is in line with the user manual guidance for
wsjt-x: "Set background noise level to 20 – 30 dB on the WSJT-X meter.
For best dynamic range, the slider to the right of the green-bar
indicator should be near mid-scale." Here I can't satisfy both
suggestions simultaneously, but pulling the slider down until I get 30
dB seems to work well. As you noted, this software is not the same as
"normal" wspr, for which the guidance is to shoot for 0 dB noise level.

Nothing decoded from DK7FC here over night but there were plenty of
decodes from W1VD, W1TAG, K1JT, WG2XJM, and W4DEX (sorry if I missed
someone). Most of those decodes were at under -30 dB SNR so not
surprising I got none further inland with just an e-probe. In fact, when
I checked around DK7 sunrise (0800Z) I couldn't even detect a signal on
the waterfall. I know from W1VD's recent test that a successful decode
requires an obvious signal line and correlation peak.
