Chaps - thanks for the reports - I dont think E/SE was as good last
night but pleased to get into Utah at 2100 miles or so, and staying
till some 48 mins after sunrise :-) - and the nil reports are very
useful too.
Just to confirm my tx freq is 506. 881 ( Eight Eight One, actually its 506.8817 at the moment and staying pretty close to that)
The
tx rectangular loop was measured yesterday. The horizontal runs are
184ft with 75ft and 50ft ish vertical sections at each end. The lower horizontal section is run at 6-9 feet above the forest ground.
The
#6 conductor now has a parallel cable run close to it. The aim was to
reduce the Rtot losses ohms a bit - the net result was a lot of tap
change both in the main 1:1ish transformer (Now 10 primary 11 secondary
on single 78 material toroid) , increase the C resonator a bit and
having to increase the Z matching to 50 ohm type 77 material auto
transformer. All a bit tricky and in real terms it was a lot of work for
little gain (maybe) - certainly at 500 where the loop is close to self
resonance but I reckon it will have improved the 137 kHz a lot based on
previous experiences at XDW at QRO levels. Loop current is around 1.9A - certainly tamer Q wise at 500!
Empirical measurements
based on previous work - the loop is producing some 10-12dB better
ground wave levels in Southerly direction over a 50ft top cap, bottom
loaded vertical with its 20 ohm R in a tree surrounded location. I have
more work to do on plotting the Polar radiation pattern.
Ill be back on tonight as we are playing with some Transpacific testing till my local dawn around 1900Z or so.
