I have gotten a lot of good use out of the Alesis 3630 set to
hard-limit all the audio before it goes into the sound card.
 
I have recorded QRSS signals with it in the summer that would
be unreadable without it. A time or two I was getting perfect copy
on a signal and had to disconnect the antenna and turn off the
receiver when a thunderstorm had gotten too close for comfort!
 
The limiter squashes most static QRN before it has a chance 
to clutter up the ARGO screen.
