Good captures, Garry...a lot better than anything I got today. Yesterday,
the static levels were up to 4 S-units above AGC threshold, but only for
short periods. Today, 4 units was the norm, with peaks above S9. As I look
at the radar, it seems likely that was all coming from Louisiana and
Arkansas.
I had MP and XKO for a while, but not well enough to decode XKO. Between
noon and 1:00 PM, the static became more constant and clouds moved in
contrary to the forecast, pretty well wiping out XKO and making MP a bit
more ragged. I think I briefly saw XNS on the QRSS60 instance, but it's
hard to tell in the glare of the car. I'm going to have to review the
captures again now that I am back indoors for the evening and see if
anything is really there.
Thanks to everyone who transmitted today! And also to the other folks
listening and watching. It's good to have some idea how far the band can
reach, even when conditions aren't the best at the more distant points.
Tomorrow won't be a good listening day here at all. Thunderstorms may begin
tonight, and will be likely through tomorrow. Firday will be sunny, but
maybe too wet to enter the field; just depending how much rain the t-storms
bring us. Too early to tell about Saturday's prospects yet...they think
it'll be dry and mostly cloudy, but I've no idea whether they'll be quiet
clouds or noisy ones. Either way, our outlook sounds better than the winter
weather watches and blizzard watches that some of you are facing in the
northeast.
John
