I'd be interested in trying both on 74 kHz. Think I'd like to start with
PSK31, to sort of establish a baseline of what's possible.
Since Navtex requires about 10 times the bandwidth, it will make tuning more
critical...both at the transmit end if your antenna system Q is over about
200 at LF, and at the receive end because my CW filters are so narrow. I
have a bit of trouble with full power Navtex signals because the filters
make tuning so touchy. Thus, it might be good to start with PSK and "work
my way up" in bandwidth if that pans out. (Might even have to dig out
Kenwood #2, which has the wider CW filter, and see if that one still works.)
Today the temperature is 22 and is not expected to rise further, so it will
take something other than everyday modes to get me back to the field, and
only until sunset at the latest! Too bad I wasn't available in time for the
JASON test this morning. I quite enjoy that one.
