Using a 40 foot vertical with modest tophat, an FET+BJT sorta-complementary 
feedback pair buffer amplifier for impedance transformation, into a Kenwood 
R-5000 running on 12 volt battery power.  The antenna is about 150 feet from 
a single-phase rural power line that puts up to 14 V of 60 Hz AC at the base 
of the antenna, but mercifully, the nearest neighbor is a quarter of a mile 
away, so it's still a lot quieter than here in town.  Main disadvantage: no 
way to check email when I'm out there.

The way this year has gone, weatherwise, I can't exactly say I'm looking 
forward to winter, but I too am eager to see what the propagation will be 
like this low in the spectrum.
