Finally made it to the field at the right time, at last! However, my
numeric dyslexia almost did me in. I'd been out there for, well, let's just
say a fairly long time, before I noticed I had dialed 74.20 kHz instead.
When I got it right, results were considerably better....

The thunderstorms over the Great Lakes must be pretty strong, but thankfully
it was crashes and not a continuous roar. Signal was well below AGC
threshold and static averaged S5 in a 270 Hz BW, with excursions from under
S1 to about S9. The QRSS60 Argo screen was minimally affected when the
static gradually began getting stronger before just 1 PM CDT, though the
QRSS30 screen (at bottom) did have a harder time distinguishing the signal.

Halfway across the continent with solar noon right between us...pretty good
groundwave!

When I got back to town, I saw the beginnings of DFCW just below Dex on
Jay's grabber, and now I see JA's message on the reflector. It's too hot to
return to the field for another hour or so, but I'll try to catch that one
while the path is still in daylight.
