I am using a homemade E-probe antenna set amidst the trees at ground level.
The RX is an HP-3686 Selective Level Meter, with the bandwidth set for 400
Hz centered on 74.2 KHz. I process the audio from the HP through an Alesis
3630 audio processor set to hard limit the audio peaks. I also use 9 - 12 dB
of hard-knee gain compression of the input signal. These settings
eliminates the white streaks of lightning crashes from the ARGO screen. If
there is a high noise level such as thunderstorm activity, the signals just
appear to fade out, but the background noise on the screen stays the same.
This system makes finding weak signals much easier than trying to sort them
out from the static white noise. Even local thunderstorms do not appear on
the ARGO screen.

Best DX & 73,
