Laurence and JD,

Thanks for the reports on my Hifers. I was surprised to hear the signals 
were making it to Alaska so long after local sunset here. Why the abrupt 
fades is a mystery. The first time JD reported that I wondered if 
perhaps there was a power outage since I was out of town. But the signal 
wasn't completely gone so that couldn't have been the reason. When I got 
back home everything seemed to be running normally. Same for last night. 
Although there were storms nearby nothing passed overhead. I have been 
turning the beacons off on occasion to tune for hifers myself and also 
to monitor signals on 20 meters. But that also would cause the signals 
to completely disappear, not just fade. I'll look into sampling the SWR 
and/or forward power long-term to see if that indicates an intermittent 
problem with the feedline or antenna.
