I used to work the 160M band when we had only a 25KHz slice due to
LORAN - so 7 KHz isn't all THAT small considering how much more
popular 160M was.

Has anyone done an "off the cuff" calculation of the expected
efficiency of a "typical" antenna? Say a 50' vertical with small top
hat and just a few ground rods/wires?

Wouldn't you need something line 10 to 100W to get 1W EIRP?

I work 60M mobile - and there is some incentive to have a bad antenna
- since power is rated in ERP. The worse the antenna - the more power
you can run. And an isotropic radiator puts more total RF energy into
space anyway. So maybe just a very simple antenna could become
popular. Just crank enough power into a 10' whip to get the legal
limit ERP. And maybe add a fan to cool the antenna loading coil.
