John - Warren - thanks for the comments - Ill do some digging and make some changes.
I just looked out of the window and have a Blue/Green auroral arc to the North about 15 deg above the horizon - not a good thing to see for LF/MF long haul :-((

I have had good sucess with silver plating in my loop ATU. It seems to
hold well on the threaded parts.

Was thinking about the brass bolted connections this morning. I'm no
mechanical engineer, so this is just head-scratching...
