Monitored the 185.3 kHz lowfer watering hole for some time over night.
Nothing good enough to decode but both TAG (185.297 kHz) and AR
(185.3017 kHz) were evident. TAG was best around 1000Z but AR was in
there the whole time from 0800Z to 1000Z. A bit more enhancement and
both should decode.
The original "490 kHz HUGE signal" subject started with the Nov 3
posting by Mitch, inquiring about a strong signal right on the 490 kHz
Navtex frequency. I've had a strong carrier there since starting to
listen to LF and it has prevented decoded anything other than the close
Canadian stations (D,J,S,and V). However, I recently revisited the
frequency with a small loop antenna and found that it substantially
nulled the carrier when aimed at about 25 degrees. That's fortunate
because there are a lot of European sources on 490 kHz near that heading
and so they might decode. Time will tell.
Looking at the VLF spectrum I see NPM, 21.4 kHz has returned.
