John, I'd hazard a guess that the "snake" source is Larry, WB3ANQ. He 
has sent a 5 Hz deviation triangle wave with 30 second period for years 
on the 30 meter band. See http://www.wb3anq.com/. Also, I see he's 
asking about US grabbers on your longwave message board.

Just got back from a trip to Atlanta and connected by sawtooth source 
back to the dipole used by the QRSS6 source. It transmits much better 
than the vertical I had been trying. Not surprising because that antenna 
has no 13.5 kHz radials and is not intended to work below 14 MHz.

As I write this EH and RY are coming in well here around the hifer 
watering hole.
