"I used to visit C&H every week or so and knew the guys behind the counter
including the 'gal in the office' whose name I never knew. Never had
anything to do with Carl [cold fish] but was pretty friendly with Henry."

The guy I recall was about 6', dark blond or light brown hair, wavy, like an
Airedale. I was with my buddy Bill Swarner. Were were about 10 or 12 at
the time. Not sure why I was at C&H that day, but ran into the fellow over
by the coke machine. He was telling us about a license free band around
1750m 1W ERP, and now that I think about it more, it probably wasn't a large
group, but a guy or two in the SG area and something about a radio club.
Really nice fellow tried talking us in Ham radio. I got my ticket about 12
years late, Bill never did.

I used to chat with the girl in the back too, can't remember the name
either. Yeah, Carl wasn't overly sociable, but he did seem to warm up the
years. He did make some good deals. Later on I used to talk to the Asian
fellow a lot, got a heck of a deal on a pile of microwave ranging/surveying
and communications equipment, TSARCOM I think, about a dozen tripods,
control boxes cables, only one head though. $15 a set. One set a I used
for a radiosonde display in a talk I gave at the Los Angeles Meterorological
Society convention in 1999, one tripod is holding a Part 15 FM stereo
transmitter. TX on a leg, antenna on an NMO mount in the center of the
tripod. Never used the rest for anything.
