>From the field a little over an hour ago!

I was out there late this afternoon checking out a used notebook computer
with a better sound card than the one I already had (top end response to 24
kHz, rather than 7.5 kHz!). Using SAQrx, I tested out some ideas involving
my future RF distribution amp and time-shifting VLF receiver front end. I
was simply going to make some semi-educated guesses, but I'm glad I got hold
of hardware that finally lets me look at this frequency range. Lots and
lots of noise to deal with locally just below the edge of allocated
spectrum!

As an added bonus, it was my first encounter with Alpha at 14.881 kHz from
this QTH! Both SAQrx (with no further assistance that the buffer ahead of
the sound card) and the R-5000 with Todd's upconverter snagged it.

Once I finished with that little project, it was well past dark. I went to
137.78, where both stations were audible most of the time. At their peak, I
had appreciable motion of the S-meter, tracking the beat note. Had to come
back to town for a little while, but hope to return for a bit longer. There
is residual snow from our mini-storm, and fresh frost already tonight to go
along with it, so I probably won;t be there long. Hope to look for JAM as
well as spend a little more time on 2200 m.
