[Lowfer] Thursday fron the Field

Falling temperatures, strong northerly wind, and an accompanying increase in
powerline buzz drove me in from the field scarcely half an hour after
sunset, so no opportunity to listen for Warren tonight. Until the buzz
started, right at 6:30 PM CST, I had already been watching MP and NA on 137
for a while, and had just begun to get a really clear capture of WMS. The
buzz turned the latter into a vague mush, though. Also before the buzz,
XSH/7 was loud and clear, as usual, but I had not yet found anyone else in
the 500 kHz vicinity. Sferics were already less than friendly at 1750 and
2200 m, but QRN was unnaturally quiet at 600 m... nothing there but Ralph
and the usual NDBs (OF, TO, etc).

Going back in time another hour or so, HiFERs were doing fairly well in late
afternoon.  No SIW, but MP was present, sometimes audible.  NC was good;
even loudly audible at one point, nudging the S-meter half a unit above the
normal residual level. Few HiFERs ever do that here. USC was also visible
and sometimes faintly audible. Nothing seen of COM today. Aurally, I
copied WV, EH, and FRC. The latter was right at 6;00 PM, several minutes
before sunset. That was the point at which I decided to check in on 137.
