I have heard of a phenomenon called the "Luxembourg Effect" where the
crossmodulation actually took place in the ionosphere. The name came
from the then superpower Radio Luxembourg mixing with other nearby
(in frequency and place) big signals and being heard weakly at sum and
difference points. Could this be a possibility? or is this just a story
with no basis?
