Only got faint traces of what was probably NA here in SEK, but did get
WD2XKO being very formal tonight; what I take to be SL in slightly tall
DFCW; XES; MP; XJ in FHDFCW (frequency hopping at start-up, that is) and
XNS.
It was not nearly as quiet when I got back to the field as when I left it,
about an hour after sunset. Static had been only the occasional pop, and
most of the time the S-meter was sitting at 2, roughly the threshold of AGC
on the R-5000. When I went back out to listen, about 10 PM CST, I first
looked at 136.17, but static was frequent at S5 with occasional excursions
to S7. After 45 minutes of nothing, I made a quick scan for MBD, EAR, and
the 185.3 watering hole with similar noise, so I figured 137.78 was the best
bet for a while. At least I could hear the carriers coming and going there.
After the attached capture, I resumed looking at the watering hole. I saw a
bit of WMS and SIW, but nothing else. The static level began diminishing
eventually, so I went back to listening for MBD until the freezing rain
started getting a bit heavy about 2 o'clock.
