I did the mod and it made an amazing difference.  Can't remember what 
wire I used but it looks like Litz:

I think what I used was Litz removed for a dead UPS unit.

Initially running 300 watts the core ran very warm.  After the mod it 
runs cool at 400 watts.  I have pushed it way over 500 watts and the amp 
still runs cool but that overloads my DC supply so I keep it at about 
400 watts output.  The transformer does have some air flow around it 
coming from the FET heat sink cooling fan.
