Changed mine over several years ago..... used the 12 strands idea ( looks like about 26/28 gauge)
twisted and covered with "spaghetti ) -- a piece of rg174 rubber cover that I stripped off.)
Then I used # 14 enamel on the secondary. Runs very cool and have had no problem since.
Dex also modified his - we had compared note at the time.
