Ground rods are not a substitute for radials. At lf, they need to be as long as you can make them and as many as you can afford. On my 600 meter antenna I have about 25 with the longest at 300 feet and an average length is probably 150 feet and I am just beginning to see the antenna Z begin to drop down into the low 40 ohms. I add radials when I can usually buying a 1/4 mile role of #14 aluminum electric fence wire and putting it all out at one time.
