[Lowfer] remote "natural radio" receiver

Years ago I built several of Michael Mideke's RS4 natural radio receivers.
I'm thinking of dismantling one of them down to the circuit board,
enclosing it in a waterproof box, and installing it on a mast perhaps 100'
from my house. I'll still get a lot of hum, but it might let me hear the
occasional whistler, dawn chorus, or other interesting signal from the
comfort of my house.

I've been checking around, and 12v batteries and weatherproof solar
chargers seem to be everywhere these days, probably because so many folks
are installing solar lighting, hummingbird feeders, and game cameras.

The RS4 has a very low current draw, and a mic or line level (not headphone
level) output, so it should be a good match for the mic or line level input
of a computer sound card. What I don't want to do is carry the 60 Hz hum
from the house to the remote RS4 via the sound card connection. What do you
guys think is the solution? Perhaps a couple of 1:1 audio
isolation transformers....one in the house and another near the RS4? Also,
anyone know of a source of inexpensive, buriable 2 wire cable?
