[Lowfer] MP, MP, and More MP

Good points about peak-to-average properties of S-meters, Jay. And of
course, that would be a critical concern for a DSP-based radio.

Even with an analog radio, when my meter shows noise much above S9, the true
peaks must be challenging the dynamic range of the Kenwood's circuitry
fairly significantly. It's no wonder that it works on their level more
aggressively under that condition. Even the comparatively tame ASK
modulation of WWVB exhibits audible "pumping" if I do not attenuate the
signal by at least 20 dB when the buffer is in-line, and the sidebands
spread out even further on the ARGO display, rather like what happened to
MP's signal in the presence of unattenuated noise last night.

It may be evening before I get to post those captures, though. I went to
the doctor this morning, and he put me on medication to unblock my airways
that may cause me to get the sleep I missed last night before doing anything
else. I already feel it working, and it is a most welcome relief.
(Everybody's been catching respiratory ailments around here; very probably
from all the dust blown around when the water line replacement crews dig
trenches. Most big cities in America have cleaner air than our little rural
settlement does right now!)
