Good day all: General comments on my continuing experimentation here... If I ever stop " tinkering ";
when it comes to amateur radio; something will definitely be wrong with me... That's the part I really
like about it; the never ending Tinkering possibilities...
Storm static was fairly high last night, with peaks reaching a consistent S-9, and quite often +5 dB,
so not a great night for monitoring on 2200 meters... None the less; I continued experimenting with my
antenna configuration, with the objective of optimizing its signal voltage, and further lowering, or
eliminating nearby interference from coming in thru the antenna.. Using a " tunable " L-Network in a
Low Pass configuration to peak the antenna voltage for 2200 meters, and last night I added a fixed
value 50 OHM - High Pass filter to roll off at 28 KHz ... It worked well from my observations anyway..
DCF-39 was exceptionally readable despite the high static levels... Interestingly; there appeared to be
no EU region stations on the air last night.. at least there were none showing up on any grabber, anywhere.
The lone 2200 meter signal once again was " MP " which is a good signal source for me to really be able
to " see " any changes in the antenna system; beneficial, or not... I have spent a number of hours
tweaking SpecLab settings, with the objective of making a QRSS signal stand out in high noise levels..
I am pleased with my results up to this point... There were times last night when " MP " was At; or,
in the noise; and with my current SpecLab settings, and receiving setup; I was able to still see his
signal in the waterfall, with NO Signal showing on the Spectrum Graph at all.. Encouraging !! Now, for
some EU signals, and lower noise levels... Excited here !!
Thanks Mitch for the signal source; it is proving to be most useful in helping to optimize my setup...
I wish I had saved a capture, but I deleted them un-thoughtedly...
I hope everyone has a great day; 73 for now: - Andy - KU4XR - Friendsville, TN.
