I enjoyed my moonlit receiving on a hill top some miles to the West of Bartlesville OK last night. Interference from Variable drive AC motors was still a pain some miles from the power lines so I need to find a better spot - musical rising tones in sympathy with some Oil well Noddy somewhere me thinks. QRN wasnt bad either.
Stations heard tally was good on MF with /31, XGR/6, WA2XRM on QRSS 10, and XGR/3 MFSK16 which was my intended target for the evening - I didnt have WSPR running but should have listened for a while. On 137 no sign of DK7FC with DCF39 and other Eu Utilities only reaching 529 with slow 10/20 mins QSB means that the path to Ok have ways to go - DCF39 does reach S9 from the car (not tried it on this rental!) on the best of nights here. Like John I heard the German timing signal but didnt hear JJY -
Im using a hired Chevvy Malibu and the electronics/timers are not quiet enough for me with anything running - nasty tone for 7 mins when lights and engine turned off on 137...wont be buying one of these (Muruno still my favorite as the quietest LF/HF hire radio car). Antennae was the W1VD modded AMRAD probe and Quad magmount/RG6 bonded to door. Rx R75 - I modded the power injector and isolation transformers this week which helped even more with in car common mode noise.
Nothing from the Alaskan receiver looking over the pole so the iono is still "hot" up there.
Ops were from EM16 Oklahoma
