Subject: [Lowfer] Alien Invasion

The mud hardened sufficiently this afternoon after our recent rains to drive
the four wheel radio shack out to the antenna. Saw the usual suspects in
the middle of the day: MP and SIW on LF, plus MP, SIW, NC, and USC on HiFER.
All the HiFERs were strong enough to be clearly audible most of the time.
Didn't see WMS today at 185.3, however.

Most of the afternoon was pretty routine until about 3:18 PM CST, when a
strange visitor from another planet (or something) descended on MP at 137
kHz. I looked at the signal with as many settings as I could try in another
instance of Argo, and never could get a handle on what it might be.
Eventually I got tired of that and went back to look at LowFER SIW, which
had an alien signal of its own for a while!

After about two hours, the one near MP also went away. By then the sun was
very low, the moon was rising, and the temperature was plummeting in the
car. I checked to make sure DCF77 was coming in, then tuned up to 162 kHz
and listened to some fine Motown music from France for a few minutes before
packing everything up.

John
