Slightly off-topic:

There is a contest running to find the most creative use of a 555 timer.
There are dozens of entries but this one has my vote:

It is an 80 meter CW receiver using only 3 active parts, all 555 timers. One
is an RF preamp, one is a CW demod (BFO/detector) and the third is an audio
amplifier. Yup, the 555 as an audio amp!

You can push ahead to the last 1/2 of the video to see it in use on 80
meters. It is incredible.

In the same contest is a single-chip 555 AM-BCB receiver.
