Not interested in opening the proverbial " can of worms " only
posting the data in the " for what it's worth " ( to you ) catagory..
I ran 2 applications of WSPR today during the groundwave test on
600 meters. The applications ran from 15:16 UTC until 23:56 UTC.
I used my TS450S and crossed dipoles, feeding my radio computer.
Both WSPR applications were running on the one PC. I have 2 soundcards
which allows me to use different settings into each WSPR application.
The radio was set for a 2.4 KHz BW feeding soundcard-1 ( WSPR-1 ).
I have a software DSP filter that inputs from soundcard-1, and outputs
to soundcard-2 which feeds WSPR-2. I set the DSP filter for 240 Hz BW
After 8 hours, and 40 minutes of run time, the results of my own
empirical real time, on air testing, showed the spot count was:
KU4XR/W - 2.4 KHz BW ( WSPR-1 ) decoded 85 times
KU4XR/N - 240 Hz BW ( WSPR-2 ) decoded 103 times
The narrow filtering on signals that are clearly audible will produce
erroneous readings such as the 2 and sometimes 3 line decodes from
a station in the same time frame.. From my repeated testing; the
benefits only manifest with a signal that is extremely weak, and will
be more evident under noisy band conditions such as summer static.
This experiment with WSPR has nothing to do with " How " WSPR processes
signals, but rather " What I'm presenting to " WSPR to process.
This information is purely basic, and far from analytical, or
scientific in nature.
73 all, and good radio-ing to you:
