Bill and Jay,
Conductor size is #12awg wire, core material was from crt monitor cord(
couldnt find recommended material in Digikey) turns ratio is 5:1 or 6:1.
I got a copy at about 0500 local time -60db, background noise is about
-63 to --66db on Spectran. No copy with ARGO. My location is very noisy
lately, I haven't had any luck copying the Hifers like JD and Lawrence
have been doing this past couple of weeks.
Next step is to find correct material for torroid and trim it up.
Thanks for the input Jay we didnt know what to expect. I suppose I
could take my heathkit q-meter and measure it or signal gen and rf
probe and try to measure Q. I need to restock ferrite cores for other
projects so I will order correct core this week.
My prelimanary observation is the loop is much easier to get going than
my verticle was. I must rethink that comment about broad tuning. We had
about 6500pf fixed cap and a 500pf variable so the perception of
broadness may be incorrect. There was a definite peak.
I reset my Spectran and am now getting better copy at 0800cdt, we
expected daytime copy at this distance.
Thaks I will keep you posted.
