[Lowfer] BEST RECEIVER FOR 360-390 KHz

I suspect it is your antenna. Several have had good luck with the TS450
modified like yours. My favorite is the TS50. Dave W5DSB and I have
compared ours to HP SVM and other rec and it out performs everything we
have tested them against. No R-75 available for comparison.

For SDR entry level I suggest the Elektor SDR kit, it is actually a
fullly assembled board. Mine has worked well on 137 and 500khz although
it needs a lowpass filter in front of it. I use a commercial unit
pulled from a SVM with a cutoff of 300khz. Performance on 185khz is
so-so. Elektor now offers a multiband front end for it. Cost is about
$150 for the basic rec and about $80 for the front end band pass
board(which I dont have). The Elektor has 0.1hz resolution, variable
filters(using the G8JCF software). Google "elektor". Also google G8JCF
for the software and links to the Yahoo forum on the software. It takes
a computer with at least a 2ghz processor. I use an outboard
CreativeLabs usb sound card with mine.Nice introduction to SDR radio.

I have a Grundig portable G5 that does well but it has an analog BFO. I
bought it on sale for $39.95 at local radio shack store. The G6 model
that replaced it has syncronous am detection and selectable sideband
so it may have xtal controled BFO which would make it more suitable for
qrss and digital modes.Current model is priced at $129.95.

I suspect the original question was about receiving LW foriegn
broadcast which would make syncronous AM detection desireable.

Key to reception is the antenna. I use random long wire and PA0RDT mini
whip with about equal results. A tuned loop of 8 or 10 ft diameter is
my next project. Thanks to all who post their experiences with various
active antennas.
