Sorry to say, nothing was seen from XGR tonight. Even WD2XSH/7 was
experiencing deeper fades than the past two nights, and was missing entirely
part of the time.

Lots of static, too, in excess of S9 at 185 and 137 kHz; which, considering
the relative insensitivity of my setup at those frequencies, means a LOT of
noise...roughly 40 db over the signals I normally see in those bands, so
deciphering anything through that mess was out of the question.

Some of the storms producing the static were readily visible from the field.
I was able to watch fireworks in town (five miles away) and the fireworks of
mother nature (another 30-50 miles beyond) from the relative comfort of my
car seat...said relative comfort being provided by a fan outside the window
pushing air in through some plastic window screening, courtesy of a deep
cycle battery and inverter. I could easily have dozed off there under the
Big Dipper and the Milky Way, with lovely silence punctuated only by the
occasional train and the howling of the wolf spiders.

By the way, I've also been checking out HiFERs. The past two nights, NC,
MP, and AZ were pretty regular. Tonight it was only NC for the longest
time, but after CODAR started booming in, there were also faint traces of 5
Hz shifted DFCW where RY ought to be.
