Hi Jordan.....well anything that you make is going to have to be a
compromise. The trick with wideband transformers at RF is that the winding
connecting to the receiver input(one winding) assuming 50R ....needs to have
a reactance of 150 ohms at the lowest frequency you want (50kHz) So you are
looking for about 500uH. That would be a lot of turns on a red code so you
probably need to calulate (or measure) that for a grey core. You then twist
the wires reasonably tightly and hope for the best at the top end. The code
doesnt do anything at the top end anyway the coupling it purely in the
closely twisted wire "transmission line" You will obviously need a fairly
big aperture to get enough turns through the ring.
