Greetings:
I've been working very slowly for the last several months to get a lowfer
beacon going at my home in Saint Paul, Minnesota (EN34kw). I'm nearly ready.
Beacon PAL runs at about 189.700 kHz in QRSS 30 into an inverted L. A top
hat isn't likely to happen at this location, it's already crowded with power
lines, service wires and 7 other antennae. The beacon currently lashed up
for testing and will become more permanently installed as I try to coax more
energy into the antenna. I may also move it closer to the "watering hole" as
it's performance improves.
I was most recently held up by a shortage of transistors, but 200 arrived in
the mail yesterday, so I'm ready to go for a while. I also built the clamp
on RF meter on K0LR's site, and should be able to measure changes in
performance.
A million thanks to Charlie, W5COV who kindly gave me the beacon and lots of
advice on getting it on the air and to Mike, WE0H who advised on the
antenna.
If anyone is interested in listening for it in the near future, let me know
in advance and I'll ensure it's set up and running. Soon I hope to have it
on a timer to run at night automatically- but off in the early evening when
I operate HF.
In the near future I hope to have a website detailing what we have here,
including some of my other radio interests (VHF+, portable, military, etc.)
but that's turning out to be a whole 'nother learning curve.
Comments on or off list are welcome.
Thanks!
Andy K0AJL
