HI, Bill,
Well I had forgotten, but now that I mention it I DO remember your "TGIF"s
from years ago!! Yes, you know I already knew all these straight forward DC
formulas -- that's not what I meant when I posted my final voltage and
current draw and said I needed help interpreting the results. I already
knew that came to half a watt.
Thanks and glad to see you are still around!
You may remember that back when I first started operating UWL back in 2003 I
used an Epson programmable oscillator (a la the projects on Lyle's site) --
then I moved to a DDS exciter which I built from a design by Murray ZL1BPU.
I built a hybrid, really, between Murray's design and Lyle's bare-bones mod,
and used the firmware Murray provided. This one worked great for 1750m and
2200m operation, but can't get to 600m.
So I built my own DDS exciter around an AD9851 dds chip and an ATmega1284p
microcontroller. I also wrote all the programming for this one (in C) and
can't decide which I had more fun with -- the hardware design (which is
complete) or the software design (which I don't think is EVER _complete_!).
This one also uses one of the 12.8 MHz TCXOs Stuart gave away to good homes
a few years ago.
No, what I was asking for help on is WHY only half a watt at that voltage --
seems like when things are adjusted right I used to get much closer to
1-watt at that voltage.
Anyway, thanks for your reply -- I'm going to reply to Jay now on his
comments and questions which I think are just what I was looking for.
Oh and Bill -- what about that SVM???
