Given the noise levels Saturday night when the storm system was way up in
Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, I didn't even take the radio to the field last
night...merely went out there to watch the lightning in the storms across
the border in Oklahoma and Arkansas. As of late this afternoon, they have
only made it as far east as western Tennessee, but they appear to be picking
up speed now. I think I'll venture out around 0200 UTC and give it a try.
The continuous roar was down to just regular vigorous static crashes this
afternoon, but both 2200 and 22 meter propagation were what is known in
advanced technical jargon as sucky. Only faithful WWVB came pounding in at
its usual strength today, and my benchmark groundwave NDB's (WG and PQF)
were good, although suffering somewhat from static.
